Abstract

Dr. Srivi Ramasubramanian hosted a half day workshop consisting of a film screening of "Coded Bias" followed by a discussion. After watching the film, which discussed issues relating to AI algorithms such as civil liberties, public policy, surveillance, automation, and discrimination, participants discussed these topics with other data scientists and social scientists. This event generated a lot of interest and helped to communicate the important ways in which algorithms influence everyday lives but also helped data analysts see the real consequences of biases.
